July 25 -- American Pie cutie Tara Reid is being sought by authorities, and no, it's not the fashion police.

Long Island, N.Y., law enforcement officials want to have a word with the 26-year-old actress about the party she was at with publicity flack Lizzie Grubman before Grubman allegedly plowed into 16 people outside a nightclub in her SUV.

"She was with Lizzie at a party before she went to [Hamptons nightclub] Conscience Point," a law enforcement source told the New York Post. "She's potentially a witness as to what was going on and what Lizzie was drinking" before the accident. Conscience Point? The irony is presumably lost on Grubman, whose (supposedly) drunken exploits are taking up more New York tab space than the disappearance of Chandra Levy.

Financier Alex Von Furstenberg was the party's host, and he has told police that Grubman appeared sober when she left the party, two hours before the accident. Police are eager to determine whether Grubman was drunk at the party, because they were unable to test her at the scene of the accident before she fled.

The publicist allegedly backed up into clubgoers after a fight with bouncers over a parking space.

Reid is out of the country on vacation, but her lawyer, Judd Burstein, told the Post that his client will be glad to cooperate with detectives on her return.

"She's going to give them truthful information, but I don't think it's going to be very helpful to them," Burstein said.

Post-party, Reid did not accompany Grubman to Conscience Point but went to another nearby nightclub, Jet East, according to the Post.

Suffolk County District Attorney James Catterson's spokesman, Drew Biondo, scoffed at the defense's shifting claims, among them that Grubman did not know the vehicle was in reverse, that she was not used to the powerful SUV, and that loose gravel was to blame for the accident.

"What is this turning into a [David] Letterman sketch? The Top 10 Reasons Why Lizzie Ran Down People in the Hamptons?" Biondo said to the Post.
