Laura Dern Pregnant

July 18 -- When last we left Laura Dern, she was pondering the mysterious defection of longtime fiancé Billy Bob Thornton, who suddenly up and married Angelina Jolie last year.

What a difference a few months make. The Wild at Heart star has a new beau and a baby on the way. Dern, 34, is expecting her first child with rock musician Ben Harper, 32, columnist Jeannie Williams reports.

The two have only been dating for six months, says Williams.

Dern, a survivor of the first Jurassic Park film, has a cameo in Jurassic Park III, which opens today. Her upcoming films include the comedy Novocaine, opposite Steve Martin, and Focus, a World War II drama. Her only film with Thornton, Daddy and Them, has been sitting on the shelf awaiting a release date.

Harper, whose albums include The Will to Live and Burn to Shine, has lately been touring with the Dave Matthews Band.
