Cats & Dogs Tops Box Office

July 8 -- Man's furry friends took home the top spot at the box office this weekend, with Scary Movie 2 hot on their heels.

Cats & Dogs, starring Jeff Goldblum as a scientist who gets involved in a sophisticated battle for world domination between elite canine and feline forces, earned an estimated $22 million in its long weekend opening, which began on July 4.

In second place was the horror spoof sequel, Scary Movie 2. The film, which pokes fun at a variety of movies including The Exorcist and Charlie's Angels, earned an estimated $21 million.

Rounding out the top five were last week's top film, Steven Spielberg'sA.I. Artificial Intelligence with $14.2 million, the Jet Li action filmKiss of the Dragon with $13.6 million, and the street racing drama TheFast and the Furious with $12.4 million.
