May 30 -- Veteran actor Jack Lemmon is recovering from gallbladder surgery and is expected to be released in a few days, his publicist said Tuesday.

Lemmon, 76, was recuperating from pneumonia when it was discovered that he had an inflamed gallbladder, Warren Cowan told The Associated Press on Tuesday. The gallbladder was reportedly not cancerous, according to Variety columnist Army Archerd.

"I spoke with him yesterday and he's doing great. He should be out in a day or two," Cowan said.

The actor was hospitalized last December for a colon condition called diverticulitis.

Lemmon won acting Oscars for Mister Roberts and for Save the Tiger. He had landmark roles alongside his good friend, the late Walter Matthau, including The Odd Couple, Buddy Buddy, The Fortune Cookie, and Grumpy Old Men.
