May 7 -- Church Group Asks Manson to Skip Denver

The Citizens for Peace and Respect organization has asked shock-rocker Marilyn Manson to skip a planned appearance in Denver as part of the Ozzfest tour, according to The Associated Press. The group, founded by South Sheridan Baptist Church pastor Jason Janz, says that Manson promotes violence, hate, and drugs. Manson had earlier pulled out of the June 21 show, but he is now back on the lineup. After the school shootings at nearby Columbine High School, several students said killers Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold were influenced by the outspoken rocker. Manson has not performed in the Denver area since the April 1999 shootings, where the two students killed 13, and then themselves.

Jill Scott Hospitalized With Lung Infection

Grammy-nominated singer Jill Scott, struggling with a lung infection, missed her opening night as the first act on Sting's U.S. tour. Her spokesperson told The Associated Press that an allergy developed into a cold and then an infection. Scott was admitted to a hospital Sunday morning with a 103-degree fever. Her representative said she should be able to join Sting's road show soon. Sting, who began his latest tour Saturday night in Washington, is a fan of Scott's. He recently told Wall of Sound, "It's a long time since I've heard a voice with that much control and real authority. I love that."

Radiohead's Jazzy Jam

During the recording of its upcoming album, Amnesiac, Radiohead turned to jazz trumpeter Humphrey Lyttelton for inspiration in the studio. One of the recordings they made, "Living in a Glasshouse," will be aired May 21 on BBC Radio 2 in honor of Lyttleton's 80th birthday. "People had said to me they were all crazy, but in fact we had a good time," Lyttleton said of the session. "It was a very heavy day." The trumpeter is a longtime host of the BBC's Best of Jazz show.
