April 10 -- Law & Order star Angie Harmon wants to let the prosecution rest after this season.

The 28-year-old actress, who has portrayed assistant district attorney Abbie Carmichael for three seasons, wants to depart from the series. Sources on the L&O set claim that Harmon wants to focus on a film career.

Executive producer Dick Wolf has apparently agreed to let her out of her contract, which had some time left on it, Variety reports. "She asked to be released early from her contractual commitment to the show," Wolf told the trade paper. "As I've said numerous times in the past, if an actor wants to leave the series for personal reasons and gives ample notice so that it doesn't affect production, I have never stood in anyone's way."

Several cast members have left the show over the years, including Steven Hill, Benjamin Bratt, and Carey Lowell, whom Harmon replaced in 1998.

The former model, who is engaged to be married to New York Giants cornerback Jason Sehorn in June, may have to stay on past April to film extra episodes, which producers hope will put NBC in good shape should an actors' strike drag on through summer.

According to The Associated Press, Harmon's release is contingent upon Wolf finding a replacement for the star.
