April 9 -- Pop singer-actress Jennifer Lopez and veteran thespian Robert De Niro are in talks to reprise the witty repartee between Doris Day and James Cagney in the 1955 musical Love Me or Leave Me.

Though both stars will likely shoot one other film prior to the project and sit out a looming actors' strike this summer both are interested in the remake. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lopez and De Niro are likely to produce Love Me or Leave Me through their respective companies, Nuyorican Productions and Tribeca Productions.

Unlike the original, Lopez's Love Me or Leave Me will not be based on the colorful life of '30s singer Ruth Etting, a Ziegfeld Follies star whose career was allegedly kick-started (and later ruined) by her Chicago gangster beau.

Another Doris Day musical, Send Me No Flowers, is also headed for remake territory. Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan, the writing-directing team behind Josie and the Pussycats, just signed a deal to bring that 1964 feature back to the big screen.
