April 5 -- Los Lobos to Be Honored at Billboard Latin Show

Tex-Mex rock act Los Lobos will receive a Lifetime Achievement award at the Billboard Latin Music Awards, recognizing the band's contributions to Spanish-language music. The group has released numerous albums through the '80s and '90s, blending traditional and pop songwriting. The group's biggest hit came in 1987, with a cover of "La Bamba," a song previously made popular by '50s singer Ritchie Valens. Among the performers at the show to be broadcast April 29 on the Spanish-language Telemundo Network will be Gloria Estefan, Julio Iglesias, Thalia, and Alejandro Fernandez.

Foo Fighters Prefer Zeppelin, Stinky Cheese

Mischievous Web site thesmokinggun.com got its hands on another batch of performance contracts between artists and venues, allowing fans to check out the backstage demands of such artists as Busta Rhymes (who needs condoms), Mariah Carey (who insists on bendy straws), and Luciano Pavarotti (who can't tolerate any "distinct smells"). Among the most amusing contracts is the Foo Fighters' list of demands, which states that they will not share a dressing room with any other performer "except Supergrass, Oasis, or maybe Led Zeppelin." The band also asks for cooling and heating, "as is customary in modern times," and asks that the cheese on the hospitality tray not be sweaty and it adds, "Dave [Grohl] loves stinky cheese!"

'N Sync's Pop Odyssey Undergoes Changes

The original Odyssey saw some unexpected twists and turns and the same fate has befallen pop act 'N Sync's version. The band, which will release Celebrity on June 26, has canceled three of the shows on its Pop Odyssey tour in Charlotte, N.C.; Las Cruces, N.M.; and Memphis, Tenn. because of stage production difficulties. Numerous other shows have been rescheduled. The current run of shows begins May 18 in Jacksonville, Fla., and runs through Aug. 22 in New Orleans, with a total of 45 concerts along the way. The band is also, apparently, now referring to the tour as "Popodyssey."
