March 22 -- Country-pop superstar Shania Twain and her husband-producer, Robert John "Mutt" Lange, are expecting their first baby together.

The singer's reps had no more details, but tabloid National Enquirer said she is four-and-a-half-months pregnant and "giddy with happiness."

An unnamed "Nashville insider" told the paper, "Shania told me, 'I've always wanted to have a baby, but in my head, I always was thinking later rather than sooner. I guess later's finally arrived!'"

The 35-year-old singer has been recording the follow-up to 1997's multiplatinum smash Come On Over with Lange in the couple's home near Lake Geneva in Switzerland.

Lange, who built his reputation producing hard rock acts like AC/DC and Def Leppard, met the Canadian singer after she completed her self-titled debut in 1993. He worked with her as a co-writer and producer to create the anthemic sound that made 1995's The Woman in Me her multiplatinum breakthrough.

Her last album, which has sold nearly 14 million copies in the United States, spawned singles long after its initial release. "Man! I Feel Like a Woman" earned her a Grammy in 1999, and "You're Still the One" brought her another last year.

Her next album is due, as is the baby, sometime this year.
