March 19 -- Antonio Banderas and wife Melanie Griffith have apparently hired full-time bodyguards after the Spanish star reportedly received death threats from terrorists.

The actor, who has been in Paris shooting Brian De Palma's Femme Fatale with Rebecca Romijn-Stamos, is supposedly being stalked by Basque separatist group Euzkadi Ta Azkatasuna ("Basque Homeland and Liberty"), England's Daily Express reports.

Banderas is said to have angered the ETA, a violent faction that has assassinated prominent Spanish officials in its quest for Basque independence, when he openly decried the group's killing of Spanish political counselor Jose Maria Martin Carpena last year.

Banderas received a death threat at his home in Marbella, Spain, earlier this month, the Express claims. If the story holds water, that makes Banderas the second prominent celeb to be targeted by thugs this year; just last month, it was revealed that the FBI was on alert about a plot to kidnap Oscar-nominated actor Russell Crowe.

Banderas is in the United States today to promote Spy Kids (out March 30). He'll appear on The Rosie O'Donnell Show and The Late Show With David Letterman.
