February 13 -- Never mind the Oscars; here come the Razzies. Each year, The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation christens nominees for the year's worst films to coincide with Hollywood's biggest event.

There are few surprises in this year's list of stinky supporting stars and bilious blockbusters. Naturally, John Travolta's phenomenally reviled sci-fi film, Battlefield Earth, is leading the votes with a humbling eight nominations enough to possibly unseat the All-time Razzie Champ, 1995's Showgirls.

Battlefield Earth garnered nods for Worst Picture, Worst Actor (John Travolta), Worst Supporting Actress (Travolta's wife, Kelly Preston), Worst Screenplay, and Worst Director. Travolta is also up for the Worst Screen Couple trophy, for himself and "anyone sharing the screen with him."

Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2, Little Nicky, and The Next Best Thing landed in a three-way tie, earning five nominations apiece, including nominations for Worst Picture (The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas also received a nod in that category).

The Razzies' Worst Actress of the Century, Madonna, did not escape the foundation's wrath this year, either. Her portrayal of "an insipid single mom" in The Next Best Thing wrangled her yet another Worst Actress nom.

The Material Mom need not feel blue, though: All contenders for a Worst Actress Razzie are repeat offenders. Rounding out the list are Melanie Griffith, for Cecil B. Demented; Demi Moore, for Passion of Mind; Kim Basinger, for both I Dreamed of Africa and Bless the Child; and Bette Midler, for having made "schlock novelist Jacqueline Susann seem even more grating than she actually was" in Isn't She Great.

Sylvester Stallone, a Razzie alum and the recipient of the Worst Actor of the Century award, may get yet another unwanted Golden Raspberry for his Worst Remake or Sequel candidate, Get Carter. Two of the year's biggest films, Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Mission: Impossible 2, are both competing in the same humiliating category.
