Sound Bites: Bruce Springsteen, Oasis, Mick Jagger
February 7 -- Boss Can't Evict Cybersquatter
Bruce Springsteen lost his bid to evict Canadian Jeff Burgar from the Internet domain name brucespringsteen.com. The World Intellectual Property Organization, which protects trademarks and patents, recently restored similar celebrity name sites to actresses Julia Roberts and Nicole Kidman, tennis players Venus and Serena Williams, and musicians Madonna and Jimi Hendrix. But as with British rocker Sting, they were not persuaded by Springsteen's case — largely because neither could prove that the "squatter" had tried to sell the name or use it for personal profit. Brucespringsteen.com is a sparse site, with a brief Springsteen bio, an opportunity to vote on the Boss's best album, and a message board, which is largely filled with angry messages attacking the Web master for not giving the domain name to Springsteen, whose official site is at brucespringsteen.net.
Liam Not Charged in Assault Claim
Police have concluded their investigation into claims that Oasis singer Liam Gallagher groped an airline staffer at London's Gatwick Airport — and the case will be dropped. "We are delighted that the police have taken this decision," an Oasis spokesperson said in a statement. "The whole matter seems to be a typical case of someone taking advantage of Liam's celebrity status." Gallagher was flying to Brazil with his band in mid-January for a performance at the Rock in Rio festival.
Jagger Settles Child Care Payments
Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger has reached a financial settlement with Brazilian model Luciana Morad, mother of his 21-month-old son, Lucas. Morad, 30, was seeking $35,000 a month in child support, but Jagger, 57, sought to pay $5,600. Terms of the final settlement were confidential. Jagger also has four children with his ex-wife model Jerry Hall (their 1991 marriage was voided in 1999), as well as a daughter, Jade, with his ex-wife Bianca Jagger, and another daughter, Karis, with Marsha Hunt.
