January 16 -- Funnyman Damon Wayans was divorced last year, but the experience obviously wasn't too terrible he's making a family-themed sitcom, My Wife and Kids, which will debut on ABC this March.

Wayans, who comes from a large showbiz family and has four kids of his own, said he'd like to follow in the cardigan-friendly style of The Cosby Show but also "deal a little more with problems that kids are facing today," The Associated Press reports.

Wayans' wife of 16 years filed for divorce in August, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple's children range in age from 18 to 10. "Having kids, there's always something new," Wayans told the AP at a press conference in Pasadena, Calif. "And the older they get, the less control you have over them."

The 40-year-old entertainer made his movie debut as "Banana Man" in Beverly Hills Cop and later gained recognition as part of the lineups of Saturday Night Live and brother Keenen Ivory Wayans' sketch comedy show, In Living Color.

Damon also wrote for In Living Color, which also featured his brothers Shawn and Marlon (Scary Movie) and his sister, Kim. Jim Carrey cut his comic teeth on the urban series as well.

Wayans' film credits include Mo' Money, Colors, Major Payne, and Blankman, in which he starred as a nerd-turned-superhero. He recently appeared in the Spike Lee film Bamboozled.
