Britney, Madonna Top Fashion Faux Pas List

January 10 -- It's a well-documented fact that fame means nothing in the fashion world. Unless celebs have a flawless stylist (or a rare, innate ability to choose the perfect outfit) to advise them against purchasing woeful threads, they'll end up on label-watchers' "Out" lists.

All the money in the world can't ensure a star's fashion cred which explains how bronzed, bleached pop princess Britney Spears and sultry Estée Lauder model Elizabeth Hurley, both of whom have plenty of cash and designers at their fingertips, can still fail to wow fashion diehards. This year, Spears was named the Worst-Dressed Woman of 2000 by self-appointed fashion guru Mr. Blackwell.

She's not alone. Spears who favors gaudy, barely there knit tops, leather pantsuits, embroidered jeans, and Kmart-style fringe adornments is joined by fellow stylistic flops Angelina Jolie, Madonna, Christina Aguilera, and Courtney Love, all of whom wandered into Blackwell's crosshairs.

"Oops, she did it again," Blackwell, who produces his worst-dressed list annually, hissed about Spears to Reuters Tuesday. "Her bra-topped collection of Madonna rejects are pure fashion overkill."

The fashionista was equally viperous when it came to Britney's older, wiser pop counterpart. Ironically, Madonna, who favors wearing snug Britney Spears T-shirts as a nod to the younger generation, was ripped a new buttonhole by Blackwell. "From Ghetto Glam to Rhinestone Cowgirl to Mrs. Guy Ritchie. Any way you label it, she's still just kitschy, kitschy, kitschy."

Oh, how we love these lists. Meeee-ow!

Britney rival Aguilera (No. 6 on the list), the young singer who never leaves the house with her navel covered, could also use some fashion help, while pop weirdo and actress Björk (No. 3), who's always marched to the beat of her own fashion drummer, ought to be dubbed "Alice in Blunderland," said Blackwell.

Oddly, gown-wearing grouch Love, known for her pampering excursions to couture shows, was ranked No. 8. We ain't sayin' that the Hole singer's ready for the runway, but she does cash in personal favors from designer pal Donatella Versace and has drastically cleaned up her wardrobe since her tragic, early '90s "kinderwhore" look.
