Ricky Martin, Van Morrison to Play Bush Inauguration

George W. Bush may have renounced his days of "Livin' la Vida Loca," but that doesn't mean he can't have Ricky Martin sing to him when he's inaugurated.

The Latin sensation will join singer-songwriter Van Morrison and actor Kelsey Grammer at a Jan. 18 gala at Washington, D.C.'s Lincoln Memorial. Bush will be sworn in Jan. 20.

The Bush team has been working to increase celebrity presence at his inauguration, recently announcing that Texas blues-rock outfit ZZ Top would play at a private party the same day. During his campaign, Bush had some musical troubles, when artists such as Tom Petty and Sting asked the Republican Party not to use their music.

In recent days, producer Jerry Weintraub, a Republican and longtime Bush family friend, has been working to get his colleagues, including gala producer George Schlatter, involved in the Bush inauguration.

"My focus is on bringing America together," Schlatter said, noting that it's his first inauguration assignment. "This is more a celebration about family and celebrating America and the spirit of coming together."

The Lincoln Memorial event will feature military bands, skydivers, fireworks, parades, and other Hollywood celebrities and singers still be to be announced.

"While there will be plenty of spectacle, it's not about spectacle," Schlatter said.

The Creative Coalition, a lobby group for celebrities, will co-host a bipartisan inauguration party, attended by Creative Coalition president William Baldwin, Pat Lawford, Tom Arnold, and others.

NBC and its parent company General Electric will also host a party.

Gore-friendly MTV Networks, which threw inauguration bashes in 1992 and 1996, was considering co-hosting a party this inauguration season but says plans were stymied by the extended election.
