December 12 -- Oscar-winning actor Jack Lemmon accepted an achievement award from actress Angela Lansbury on Sunday, but he had to do it via telephone, due to his hospitalization with an infection.

The veteran actor, who is being treated for a colon condition called diverticulitis, expects to be released from the hospital today. Lemmon, 75, was honored with the Hollywood Women's Press Club Buddy Rogers Legend Award, according to Variety columnist Army Archerd.

Lemmon's rep did not return calls.

The actor most recently voiced the part of Old Hardy Greaves in The Legend of Bagger Vance and has appeared in numerous films with his lifelong Odd Couple chum, the late Walter Matthau.
