Faith Hill Leads AMA Nominees

Country-pop singer Faith Hill led the pack with four nominations for the American Music Awards, announced today. Pop-rock outfit Creed received three nods, while singer Britney Spears, the event's host, earned two.
Winners in the 20 categories will be announced at the 28th annual awards ceremony, held Jan. 8 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles and broadcast live on ABC on the East Coast.
Hill has already received the Best Female Vocalist award at both the Country Music Association Awards and the Academy of Country Music Awards, following the success of last year's Breathe. The album, which has sold more than 3.7 million copies, crossed over to top the pop charts, earning the singer nominations in the Pop and Adult Contemporary Music categories for the AMA.
Pop-salsa singer Marc Anthony also straddled fences for his three nominations, competing with Hill in the Adult Contemporary category and getting credit in the Pop and Latin categories. His self-titled album, released last year, was performed in English, though it followed a string of Spanish-language albums that made him the world's top-selling salsa singer.
Creed earned nods for Favorite Band, Duo, or Group and Favorite Album in the Pop category after Human Clay spent most of the year entrenched in the Billboard Top 10. The Florida quartet also managed a third nomination in the Alternative Music category, along with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Limp Bizkit.
Spears, at age 18, is already an AMA veteran after winning the Favorite New Artist prize at last year's show. She turns 19 next month but will still be the youngest host since Debbie Gibson in 1989. Organizers have not said whether Spears will also be performing at the show.
Controversial rapper Eminem will vie with Anthony and Kid Rock for the top spot in the Favorite Male Artist in Pop or Rock category and will also compete with his mentor, Dr. Dre, and DMX in the Favorite Hip-Hop/Rap Artist division.
