October 6 -- Marilyn Manson is joining forces with the Blair Witch as our old friend Count Floyd would say, "Ooh, that's scary."

It was announced today that the first release from Manson's new Posthuman record label will be the soundtrack to the motion picture Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2. With a lineup dominated by hard-edged rock acts, peppered very lightly with a smattering of alternative bands (Death in Vegas, Elastica), the key selling point for the disc which is in stores Oct. 17 will surely be the new Marilyn Manson track, a cover of "Suicide Is Painless."

That's right the theme from M.A.S.H. Don't worry, from the sound of things, Manson hasn't gone as soft as Alan Alda for his reading of the Johnny Mandel-Michael Altman ditty. "Manson's version of 'Suicide Is Painless' is as dark and foreboding as the Blair Witch itself" it says so right here in the press release.

Manson is also playing a key role in the Blair Witch WebFest, a three-day online event that kicks off Oct. 18 at www.blairwitchwebfest.com. The cyber-convention includes a contest where the grand-prize winner will receive travel and tickets to the opening of Manson's upcoming tour, which begins in Minneapolis on Oct. 27.

The lucky winner will also get to attend a private screening of the flick with the gaunt-and-scary one himself. You, Marilyn Manson, Blair Witch, and a darkened theater. Does the prize include psychological counseling after all this is through?

The new Marilyn Manson full-length, Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death) is in stores Nov. 14.
