Hopkins Gets Grinchy

August 31 -- All you Whos down in Whoville, be afraid. Be very afraid.

Creepy-voiced Anthony Hopkins, who is currently working on his return as serial killer Hannibal Lecter, will narrate Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Variety notes.

The late Boris Karloff voiced the 1966 TV version of the children's holiday classic. Ironically, Karloff was best-known for scaring the kiddies, rather than guiding their favorite animated tales.

With his clipped British enunciation and gloomy timbre, Hopkins should follow in Karloff's footsteps quite nicely. We truly hope he's the one who gets to sing the soundtrack highlight "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch."

The Grinch's big-screen debut stars Jim Carrey as the life-sized beast. Ron Howard is directing, and his Imagine Entertainment co-chair, Brian Grazer, will produce.

Grinch hits theaters Nov. 17. Hopkins will provide a voiceover throughout the picture, which is said to be a combination of dialogue from the book and original narration.
