Beastie Boys/Rage Postpone Tour
N E W Y O R K, July 26 -- The crowded summer concert season just got a little less hectic with the news that the Beastie Boys and Rage Against the Machine are staying home.
The two rap-rock bands were set to embark on their first joint outing next month, but they have postponed the “Rhyme and Reason” tour due to an injury suffered by Beastie drummer Mike D.
Mike D was bicycling through New York City this past weekend when he “had a run-in with a pothole and ended up dislocating his shoulder,” according to a statement on the Beastie Boys’ official Web site.
The full extent of the damage has not yet been determined, but a specialist advised Mike D against performing for two to three months because of the risk of causing permanent injury to his shoulder, the statement said.

The tour will not be rescheduled until Mike D is fully recovered, so for now, fans will just have to sit tight.
There’s been no word yet on the rest of the tour lineup, which was to include special guest appearances by bands including No Doubt, Stone Temple Pilots and rapper Busta Rhymes.
Rage and the Beasties had never toured together before, but they have teamed up for festivals in the past. In announcing the tour in June, they said they were eager to share the stage.
“It was an idea that was long overdue,” Rage guitarist Tom Morello told MTV. “I mean, the idea is a very simple one. It’s to make the funkiest most rocking greatest tour of all time.”
The two bands performed together at the1999 Tibet Freedom Concert and also co-headlined an event in 1999 to raise funds for controversial death-row inmate Mumia Abu-Jamal.
