LONDON, Feb. 21, 2008— -- Amy Winehouse didn't get any silver statuettes Wednesday night at the Brit Awards, but the event could hardly be called a comedown from her Grammy success, when she won five awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

Her name was on everybody's lips.

Fresh out of rehab, she was right back on stage. She sang a boppy version of her hit "Valerie" with Mark Ronson, then sang a soulful solo during which she mouthed "I love you" to her husband Blake Fielder-Civil.

Fielder-Civil is currently languishing in jail, charged with assault and lying to police. Meanwhile, the world is watching his wife, including a video sold to a British tabloid recently that apparently shows her smoking crack cocaine.

Her performance Wednesday night wasn't vintage Winehouse. She tugged nervously at her skirt. Her voice was not quite 100 percent. But even below par, Winehouse has few peers.

"Amy Winehouse is simply one of the finest musical talents this country has ever produced," composer Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber told ABC News.

"I'm nervous to see Amy perform tonight," British '60s star Lulu told ABC News earlier on the red carpet.

"I'm looking forward to see Paul McCartney but most of all Amy Winehouse," singer Beth Ditto said.

"I asked her to perform tonight," Winehouse collaborator Ronson told us. "And she said yes."

It was not the only excitement for Ronson, the latest hot producer/performer. He's lived in New York since he was 8 years old, but took Best British Male Solo Artist at the awards.

The success of Winehouse's 2006 album made the London-born singer an international sensation. But it's her fall into drug addiction that has kept her in the headlines.

One of the biggest non-British stars on the London red carpet tonight was Rihanna. She didn't win anything, but gave a scintillating performance with the British band Klaxons. She's still basking in the glow of her Grammy win for rap/sung collaboration for "Umbrella."

"I still cannot believe it. I have a Grammy," she said. And she just turned 20 today.
