Building has begun at Ground Zero, the former site of the World Trade Center, where nearly 3,000 people died during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The 16-acre site will be the future home of a permanent memorial honoring all those who died on Sept. 11, as well as new commercial and retail space, hotel facilities and an open space for the public.
