Chicago Comes to Times Square

Dec. 4, 2007 — -- "Good Morning America" unveiled the second of its new "extraordinary holiday windows" series this morning, bringing a slice of Chicago to New York.

The Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau created a traditional winter scene with more than 20 Chicago vignettes captured as they would look during the holidays.

Meghan Risch, director of public relations for the Chicago tourism board, joined "GMA" to talk about the exhibit and why the holidays are the best time of year in the Windy City.

The display features ice skaters in Millennium Park along with iconic Chicago sights such as Michigan Avenue and State Street, the John Hancock Center, Old Water Tower Place, the Sears Tower, the Art Institute Lion, the Chicago Theater Marquee, the Elevated Train ("El") and the Millennium Park Cloudgate sculpture (famously nicknamed the "Bean").

Designer Robert Finzel created the set using one-fourth-inch-thick acrylic, individually coloring and polishing each piece. Finzel also conceived and installed the famous holiday horns and garlands on the exterior of the former Marshall Field's store on State Street (now Macy's).

"GMA's" holiday windows will be on display in its Times Square studio on 43rd Street and Broadway every day until midnight.
