This letter was submitted by Sy Schaap's husband, Howard, on her behalf.
My wife is the most beautiful, spunky, graceful person I know and would be perfect for Dancing with the Moms. My wife, Sy (prounouced "See"), is a beautiful dancer. In high school, she choreographed dances for lip sync contests that left the rest of us in awe. She was also the lead dancer in "The King and I," the school musical. Since we live in a town of 1,100 people, however, Sy has never had a chance to use her dancing talents in a truly organized setting. Instead, she turned her attention and grace to athletics: she played three sports in high school and was recruited to play four in college. Her senior year, she walked on at the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers women's basketball program. She is the most fluid, athletic person I know -- especially considering she's 5' 4½".
Then in 2004, two months after the birth of our second child, Sy was diagnosed with a massive brain tumor, a meningioma, and underwent 10-hour brain surgery and radiation treatment. Fortunately, she has regained all her grace and continues to play organized sports at age 33, and our third child was born in 2005 without any problems. Currently, Sy works part time as a physical therapist and continues to try new things -- such as getting hypnotized as part of her hospital's Christmas party entertainment - but dancing is her first love.
She is a huge fan of "Dancing with the Stars," reenacting the show with our three children, Sommer (6), Micah (3), and Aidan (1), on the living room floor. Perhaps the most amazing thing of all, Sy was a originally a refugee, coming to America at age six from Laos. Please, please make my wife's dancing dream come true and choose her for Dancing with the Moms!
