"Good Morning America" talked to the national memory champion, Ram Kolli, a graduate student in computer science at Virginia Tech. Kolli was crowned Saturday in New York after a series of grueling challenges such as remembering the placement of a shuffled deck of cards, a list of 500 words and the names and faces of 99 strangers. Here are some tips on how the average person can improve their memory:
Connect what you want to remember to a strong emotion through a story, song or activity.
Personalize what you want to remember by using your friends' names or things you can relate to from your home and neighborhood.
Use memory chunking -- don't try to remember more than seven things at a time in any category.
