Melanie Cordes make her first Pilots N Paws transport with her husband, pilot Jim Cordes, taking "Butch" from Allen County Airport in Lima, Ohio, to Tulip City Airport in Holland, Mich. A Pilots N Paws pilot makes a final approach in Huntington, W.Va., on a multileg flight mission. Flights can be expensive, so dogs are matched with pilots who are traveling on vacation, need extra flight hours for certification, or just love animals. The flight costs are tax deductible.

On Aug 10, 2009, pilot Jeff Bennett's trip started in Key West, Fla., with three rabbits he took to a rabbit sanctuary in Punta Gorda, Fla. Then he flew on to Dothan, Ala., and picked up 13 lively beagle mix pups that went to three different rescue homes in the Orlando/Lakeland area of Florida. Pilots N Paws does not coordinate or arrange the rescues, but, rather, provides the forum for which volunteers can come together to arrange rescue flights, foster care, and new homes for dogs and other animals.
