What Will Rule on the Red Carpet?
Feb. 23, 2007 — -- Some of the biggest fashion trends of the season will be launched Sunday night on the red carpet.
With the help of Lucky Magazine's Allyson Waterman, "Good Morning America" got the inside scoop on what to look for.
White and Strappy
Waterman showcased a white Valentino gown with spaghetti straps, a beaded and embroidered bodice, and layers of taffeta. She said beading and embellishment would be big, along with white.
"What we love about this is that we're seeing a lot of white on runways and it works for any age," she said. "The age range this year goes from Abigail Breslin, who is 10, to Helen Mirren, who's not. White can go for any age, even before Memorial Day."
Black With Detail
Black doesn't have to be boring. Look for a gown with an interesting neckline and dress it up with one-of-a-kind accessories.
"Just because you choose black doesn't mean you're giving up on style, you should look for something that's got an interesting detail, simplicity of the line is amazing, just enough coverage, but with enough of the neckline to maintain your sexiness," Waterman said while showing off a black gown by J. Mendel.
Diamond-accented accessories sparkle against a black backdrop, so put on a bit of bling to up the ante of a plainer gown.
Waterman said that prune, a brown color with a tint of purple, would be big this year. A prune Oscar de la Renta gown exemplifies how the color can pop on the right person.
"It's strapless tulle with a ruched bodice and a hint of chiffon at the top -- super feminine," Waterman said. "It's full-tiered tulle from the waist down. It's for the girl who wants to make an entrance, a show-stopper. It's better on a girl who's tall and really wants to make a statement."
Heels will dazzle at the Oscars. Christian Louboutin's five-inch heels encrusted with Swarovski crystals are bound to be attention-grabbers.
Waterman showed off a shoe that takes the trend a step further, opting for diamonds instead of crystals. Stuart Weitzman's stilettos boast more than 1,000 diamonds, and on Sunday, Anika Noni Rose from "Dreamgirls" will be strutting down the red carpet with them on.
