Dolly Parton Sings for 'GMA'

Oct. 13, 2005 — -- Country music superstar Dolly Parton has written more than 3,000 songs and sold upward of 100 million records. On her latest album, "Those Were the Days," she sings other people's songs, such as Bob Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind."

As part of "Good Morning America's" "Women Rule" concert series, Parton sang John Lennon's "Imagine," another song cover from the album.

Parton also sang her working-girl anthem "9 to 5," for which she earned an Oscar nomination for best song in 1980. Right now, she's writing songs for a Broadway version of "9 to 5." If the show goes forward, Parton said she might move back to New York City -- where she lived for 25 years.

No matter what she does, the 59-year-old Parton is larger than life. In 2004, she was awarded the Living Legend medal by the U.S. Library of Congress for her contributions to the cultural heritage of the United States.

Parton has donated a guitar to "GMA" to be auctioned off to benefit Pass Christian, Miss.
