Brian, thanks. Let's bring in martha raddatz, traveling with defense secretary leon panetta, right now. Good morning, martha. Reporter: Good morning, george. Defense secretary panetta is here speaking to troops. We flew up here this morning where he is monitoring the situation in algeria very closely. He says the hostage-takers have rocket-propelled grenades. And the situation is chaotic. We strongly condemn what has taken place. It's a serious matter when americans and others are taken hostage. And what we're going to do is continue to look at that situation and determine what steps need to be taken. I think americans -- americans ought to be assured that we'll take all necessary and proper steps to deal with this kind of situation. Reporter: Secretary panetta did tell me he thought there might be as many as 100 hostages and 7 or 8 americans. But the situation is fluid, george. Okay, martha. Thanks so much. So much tension across that region.
