I can tell you, even as they started casting ballots, boehner's own team did not know if they had the votes to win an outright majority. In the end, he lost 12 republicans. That may not sound like a lot. But it would take just 17 to keep him from getting re-elected speaker. So, he emerges as a weakened speaker. Less able to make compromises with the president. As one republican put it, he was like a cemetery superintendent. He has a lot of people under him. But nobody listening. That's going to be tough for him as he faces the debt limit confrontation with the president at the end of february. And the president learning yesterday he's going to face that without his treasury secretary, tim geithner. We knew he was going to leave. But now, he's saying he's going to leave right after the inaugural and not be around for that confrontation. Reporter: That's right. Not a surprise he's going. But he was going to follow through the fiscal cliff debate. That's only part-over. The debt limit fight's a big one. He'll have a new treasury secretary.
