Today so many still talking about Jesse, the 22-year-old man who accepted the award for video of the year for Miley Cyrus and today we're learning more about the man who stepped up to the podium for good cause. ? Wrecking ball ? Reporter: Miley Cyrus, winning big at the mtv video music awards Sunday but it was her mystery guest who stole the show. My name is Jesse and I am accepting this award on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth in the united States. This morning social media still buzzing about 22-year-old Jesse Helt the self-proclaimed former runaway who not only accepted her award but made a plea for a much bigger cause. I've survived in shelters all over this city. I've cleaned your hotel rooms. Reporter: So who is Jesse Helt? He's originally from Salem, Oregon and moved to L.A. Where he worked as a part-time model. His mother Linda Helt said he did it because he wanted to make Earth on his own but states at times she knew he was homeless. He called me and said, mom, I'm living in a bush. ? I came in like a wrecking ball ? Reporter: Cyrus who posted this picture of them eating an in-n-out burger telling Ryan Seacrest she met him at my friend's place. I wanted to meet someone that would be fearless enough, you know, like Jesse to go up and deliver this speech. Reporter: In his speech, Helt directed people to her page to make donations. My friend's place saying it's already feeling the enormous impact. Within 24 hours, we will have raised $200,000. My friend's place has never been able to do that before. Reporter: As for Helt his mother telling us he's shy and back in Salem apparently staying low key after the speech that skyrocketed him and his cause into the limelight. A dream you dream alone is only a dream. Reporter: And Miley even paid for his flight home to Oregon. So she would Ryan Seacrest one person he wanted to meet was Katy Perry and landed in the seat next right to her. Seacrest tweeted this after the show they went to in-n-out and didn't make out, Miley says Jesse gets to keep the moon man. That's awesome.
