Reporter: For the first time in an exclusive interview with espn, donte stallworth is talking about the hot air balloon accident that left the wide serve and his friend with serious injuries after both were electrocuted when the balloon's basket hit powerlines. It was a quiet saturday morning in march just south of miami. Very quiet. Very peaceful. A nice day. Took a lot of pictures. There's the man, the pilot. The man. We'll see what happens. The flight's not over yet. Reporter: For over an hour, the flight was uneventful. En the pilot said they couldn't land at the expected location, things quickly took a turn. I began to become concerned when I was looking back behind me and I saw that we were getting really close to the power looins. By the time I realized that we were going to hit the line, it was too late. As soon as we hit the powerline, I can feel the electricity. I felt it in my spine all the we through my body. It felt like make two or three seconds. But the longest two or three seconds of hi life. I caught on fire somehow. I couldn't believe this was where it was going end. She was in the corner of the basket on fire. I remember saying, don't close your eyes. If you do, you're going die. That will be it. I literally thought I was -- thought I was dead. Reporter: After the basket crashed to the ground, both were air-lifted to the hospital with second and third-degree burns. And a long painful road to recovery. Reporter: There's been an outpouring of well wishers. Sta stallworth, a free agent, hopes to play this season. The fear fatal accident has given him a new perspective.
