t Text1 plain THE FIRST THREE "BOURNE" ES KNOWLEDGE MOVIES MADE ALMOST 1 MILLION DOLLARS. HOW DO YOU IMPROVE ON THAT? YOU EXPAND THE FILM. MAKE IT MORE SINISTER. AND ADD EDWARD NORTON TO THE CAST. "THE BOURNE LEGACY" AND EDWARD NORTON. WE HAD JEREMY RENNER ON, WHO PLAY THE PROTAGONIST TO A DEGREE IN THIS MOVIE. THEY HAVE THE PROTAGONIST THING THRUST UPON THEM. AND THE BAD GUYS, THE BADDIES, AS MY FATHER WOULD CALL THEM. TELL US ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER. TONY GILMORE WROTE THE FIRST THREE. AND HE'S A DIRECTOR WHOSE FILMS I APPRECIATED. HE DOESN'T WRITE HEROES AND VILLAINS. HIS CHARACTERS ARE IN SHADES OF GRAY. AND JEREMY AND RACHEL AND I ARE CHARACTERS THAT ARE CONSPIRING IN THIS MURKY WORLD. I DON'T THINK MY CHARACTER IS A VILLAIN IN LOVES WHAT HE'S DOING. BUT HE'S SOMEONE WHO FEELS HE HAS TO DO DIFFICULT THINGS AS PART OF HIS JOB. WE HAVE A CLIP. THIS IS WHEN YOUR CHARACTER MAKES THE CASE FOR HIS PROFESSIONAL EXISTENCE. STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND TURN AROUND. THAT'S AN ORDER. IT WOULD BE PERFECTLY NORMAL FOR A PERSON TO HAVE DOUBTS ABOUT THE MORALITY OF WHAT WE'RE ASKED TO DO. IS THAT A QUESTION, SIR? NO, IT'S NOT. LISTEN TO WHAT I'M SAYING TO YOU. YOU KNOW WHAT THE SATYR IS? THAT'S WHAT WE ARE. WE TAKE THE MORAL EXCREMENT WE FIND IN THIS EQUATION AND PUT IT DOWN. WE ARE MORALLY INDEFENSIBLE AND ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. YOU UNDERSTAND? PICK THAT UP. IF NOTHING ELSE, THAT'S THE COMMITMENT OF A PATRIOT. YEAH. I THINK HE HAS TO HAVE A RATIONALE FOR THE THINGS THEY DO. BUT I THINK THAT'S KIND OF WHAT'S INTERESTING ABOUT THE BOURNE FILMS. THEY'VE ALWAYS HUNG A LITTLE CLOSER TO THE ACTUAL MORAL QUESTIONS OF THE DAY. THEY'RE NOT KIND OF THE FUN, FANTASTIC SUPERHERO FILMS. BUT THEY'RE FILMS WHERE THE CHARACTERS ARE ACTUA ELIMINATED. YOU MENTIONED TONY, WORKING WITH HIM. DIRECTS THE FILM AND ALSO WRITES IT. HE GETS TO SEE THE VISION TO THE END. HE LACED THE FILM THREW THE THIRD FILM. DO YOU FEEL YOU NEED TO SEE THE FIRST THREE BOURNE MOVIES TO APPRECIATE IT? IT'S FUNNY. A FRIEND OF MINE SAW IT AT THE PREMIERE. AND HE DIDN'T SEE THE FIRST THREE. AND HE LOVED IT. I THINK TONY DID A BRILLIANT JOB OF HAVING THE BEGINNING OF THIS FILM ALMOST PRELAPSE THE FILM. HE CALLED IT A PHONE CALL FROM THE LAST FILM TO THIS ONE. IT WORKS VERY WELL. IT'S VERY CLEVER. IT'S NOT LIKE RECASTING AND REBOOTING. IT'S LIKE A GREAT SPY NOVEL WHERE YOU TURN TO THE NEXT CHAPTER. IT'S WELL DONE. BEFORE WE LET YOU GO, I WANT TO LAUD AND GIVE YOU A CHANCE OF WHAT IT WAS LIKE TO WORK WITH WES ANDERSON. I HAD A FUN YEAR LAST YEAR BECAUSE I MADE THIS ONE AND MADE "MOON RISE" WITH WES. I DON'T KNOW IF YOU CAN COME UP WITH TWO DIFFERENT FILMS. THE BOY SCOUT UNIFORM OF THAT WAS WORTH THE GIG ALONE. AND HE IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE FILMMAKERS. IT WAS A DREAM TO WORK WITH HIM. YOU COULDN'T ASK FOR TWO BETTER FILMS AT THEATERS RIGHT NOW. WITH SWIFFER DUSTERS, REALLY APPRECIATE YOU COMI
