to the Colorado woman trapped inside her car for six days. She used her umbrella to signal for help as she fought to stay alive. ABC's John muller has the story. All of a sudden, we realized, we can't find her. You start thinking for the worst. Reporter: For six heart wrenching days, glen and Connie Morgan didn't know if their daughter, 44-year-old, Kristen Hopkins, was dead or alive. She was struggling to survive. Here, trapped in a wrecked car 140 feet below a winding Colorado road, without food or water. She was using every means possible to get out of where she was. Reporter: Using whatever she could find in her car, the single mother of four struggled to send out distress messages, using this placard. Need doctor. Hurt and bleeding. And thirsty and hungry. Six days, no food or water. Connie had given her that umbrella because she didn't have one in the car. And she uses that umbrella to write messages. I know in my heart that she thought of her four kids. I have to stay alive. I have to get home to my babies. Reporter: Finally, a couple driving by spotted Hopkins' car upside-down, in the tangled trees. Telling police, they thought the person inside was dead. We looked at the right place at the right time. If they had waited too much longer, she probably wouldn't be here today. Reporter: Hopkins has a long recovery ahead. This morning, she is in critical condition. Doctors had to amputate both of her feet. And she faces another surgery tomorrow. But her parents say they are hopeful she can beat the odds once again. Because she is such a fighter, she will make it work. Reporter: After surviving all of that, you can bet this morning that this mother of four is going to make it. If you would like to help the family with some donations, they can be made to the Kristen Hopkins donation fund. You can find the donation information on our website, abcnews.com.
