And now we have encouraging update on the 11-year-old young man we told you about in july. The 17-year-old made a split-second decision to sacrifice his right arm. He's back in school with the best attitude ever. Matt gutman has the story. Reporter: It was a moment of hour. I gator just got my friend in the water. I told him to get back in when the gator's coming after me. Reporter: In july, this 11-foot gator clamped 17-year-old fred's arm. Fred to make a split second life or death decision. When he started to do it, i thought, here's my chance. Reporter: He moved to safety. He came up out of the water like superman. I came over here. There's a big old spiderweb. I put it over my arm. I came up here and put my arm between my legs. Reporter: He stopped the blood so well he didn't even need a transfusion. The next day, his attitude. I'm still alive. My brothers are still alive. Reporter: This morning, he has a new arm. Fitted last week by technicians with a prosthetic limb that allows him to grab, grip on something as small. To test that new hand, the high school senior volunteered to take us out on his beloved air boat. He's one handed as he drives. Out there on the water, he drives with his feet and keeps his rifle nearly. Gators still a threat. Back at the site of the attack, fred refuses to be scared. No fear of gators, huh?
