Countdown to the big fourth is on. Getting closer. And many of us will have cookouts. Dr. Besser said, keep in mind, when you get ready to do the big dinners and cookouts and grilling, you have tips that we don't often think about. First of all, when it comes to the chicken, my eyes popped when I saw this morning. You say don't wash the chicken? Yes. I get a lot of pushback on this. You don't want to wash your chicken before you cook it. Half of the chicken you buy is contaminated with bacteria. When you wash it, you're going to cut down on bacteria, but spray that around your kitchen. Cook it to 165 or well done. Can you dunk it in water to rinse it? You can because no one's going to eat the raw chicken. Here's an interesting one. You say, don't go to the store and buy a melon that's already cut. Yes. It's hard to pick a good melon. Is it ready to eat? It's tempting to buy it this way. As soon as they buy into the melon, they are carrying that bacteria into that melon. If you keep it cold, it will multiply and make you sick. Buy it like this and cut it right before you eat it. That's the safest way to go. This kills me. Two hours and toss. I go back and scoop it out. The food's laid out at 10:00 in the morning. 3:00, you're still seeing the potato salad. Everyone says, the biggest risk is the mayo. It's not the mayo, it's the time. Thank you so much, Dr. Besser. Happy fourth. You, too. "Pop news" and weather coming up.
