She's the star of the abc hit show, "scandal." She plays olivia pope, a crisis manager, who handles all of washington's dirtiest secrets. Season two begins next thursday. And we have a preview. Take a look. Congressman, do you have enemies? Anyone who would want to catch you doing something improper? When you found out someone, republican, democrat, was illegally recording you in your office, you didn't go to security or capitol police? You came to me. Did you take a bribe in this office? I don't take bribes? Fund raise on government property? Of course, not. I don't break the law. We're sure you don't. But yet, we're here. If you didn't break the law, what did you do? What a juicy role. Kerrwashington joins us here in times square. Good to see you this morning. It's great to be here. You don't get advanced scripts. You have no idea all of the twist and turns. People watch the show. And we're usually interacting on twitter with our fans as they watch the show. And we can see how shocked they are. That's how we feel when we read the script. We totally identify. We're always going, what? Are you kidding me? That's crazy. It seems like everybody in this cast has a secret. Yours is your secret affair with the president of the united states. A pretend one on the show. Pretend one, exactly. What is that like, working around that mine field of unknown? It's really fun. Our entire cast and crew, we love the material. We love each other so much. It's created a real bond because a lot of our crew members, they've been working in television for 20 years. And they say to me, we haven't read scripts for a tv show we worked on forever. But the material is so exciting, everybody's really invested. Are you surprised at the hit it's become? I'm grateful. I'm really grateful. Our fans, I feel so indebted because it's because you guys watch the show that we even get to have a second season. Well, while you're having an affair with the president on television, in fiction land, in real life, you're campaigning for president obama. Is that your first foray into politics? I was on the campaign trail in 2008. I've been on the president's council for arts and humanities. And spoke at the democratic national convention. Were you nervous? I think more than anything, i was honored. There's so much at stake in this election. I was honored. When I speak out, I don't speak out as an celebrity. I speak out as an american. We're so lucky to we have freedom to express our views. That's why I participate. I feel grateful that other people sacrificed. And you're up for the emmys this weekend. I am. I'm doing my own private version of what lara's doing. My friends and family, my glam squad were all voting between a couple dresses. I haven't totally decided. But I have pretty good options. I'm sure you'll be stunning no matter what you wear. Kerry washington, good luck. The new season of "scandal" a week from tonight. It's exciting. We'll be tuned in for the show. Thank you.
