All right, now to a striking new FBI warning about lasers being flashed at planes potentially blinding pilots. The safety of thousands of flights on the line right now and ABC news has the latest Numbers this morning. ABC's David Kerley with the details. Reporter: It is the most critical phase of flight. San Francisco, that laser is almost right underneath us right now. Reporter: Pilots landing their aircraft but in the range of laser pointers. This is happening more than ten times every day in this country. This pen-size pointers can light up a cockpit possibly blinding a pilot temporarily. Two green flashes and it caught the first officer in his eye. Reporter: The number climbing every year. 2012, 3400 strikes but this morning the FAA tells ABC news that climbed to more than 3900 and all-time high last year. The federal government has had it. It's not just a danger to the pilots as well as to the passengers, but to the people on the ground. Reporter: So later today the FBI will announce it's offering a reward, $10,000 to anyone reporting someone who lasered a plane. The government is also launching an educational campaign aimed at teens explaining that aiming a laser pointer at a plane is a felony that can give you five years in federal prison. Very serious and the FBI is treating it as such. Reporter: The problem is these lasers are so available and can be so dangerous if pointed at a plane. The FBI is rolling out this new initiative across the country in so many of the cities with the most laser hits. That includes Portland, Houston, Phoenix and Los Angeles.
