Transcript for Olympics 2012: Ryan Lochte vs. Michael Phelps
One of the biggest rivalries will be between michael phelps and ryan lochte. Phelps' coach tweeting this picture this morning and phelps himself tweeting last workout ever. Now let's have some fun. Espn analyst julie foughty who knows a thing about winning an olympic medal, has the latest. Hi, robin. This is one of the greatest rivals but what is refreshing, they like each other. But tomorrow is all out as they go for their first win. With the london games kicking off today, the first must-see event, has u.S. Superstar michael phelps, capturing the world's attention four years ago after completely dominating in beijing. I think going into beijing, we were trying to conquer everything and anything. This will be the scene you'll see most likely in london. Reporter: But this time around his toughest competitor might be standing right beside him on team usa. I think getting second behind him so many times. I always knew I was capable of beating him. It was just a matter of when is. Reporter:27-year-old reigning world champion, ryan lochte beat him at the u.S. Trials and said he's going to do the same in london. If it can happen once, it can happen again and again. Usually when I beat someone it's rare that they beat me again. I feel it's my time. He's always been in the shadows of michael phelps. In london he's going to come out of those shadows. Reporter: Phelps is the first to win the gold in the same olympic event in three successive olympic games. After that, he says he'll be ready to hang up his goggles. I'm here to swim as fast as i can. If I do that, that's all that matters. Really, how many toppings do i want on my sundae. Reporter: Tomorrow is competitive. Phelps has an edge, 6'4" to lochte's 6'1", he tolds 16 gold medals. And 16 gold medals to lochte's 3. Lochte has to be in the same area of the greatest swimmer of all time. Me and him have a great rivalry, but at the same time, have a great friendship. Can't wait to see them in the pool. Let's talk about the women. Very high expectations for missy franklin. What can you tell us about her? Hi expectations for sure. She's going to swim in seven events, first female american to do that in olympics. She starts off with a relay, team event. She can get the nerves out and be part of a collective group and possibly collect her first gold. Good insight as always from julie foudy. I managed to have a little bit of fun while you're over there for us, just a little bit. I will try my hardest. You always do. We'll check with you on down the road. Thanks, julie.
