Transcript for Oprah Winfrey on Leaving Hit Show, Future of OWN
Best audience. Best television host ever. Oprah winfrey is right here this morning. We'll sit down and take a breath. It's hard. You can hardly get a breath. We move fast here. Yes. Oprah winfrey show went off the air may 2011, a year and a half now. You haven't missed a beat. I haven't missed a beat. I think I've been working harder than ever before. I was -- is that true? Oh, there's no question about that. Building a network -- there's that final moment. Building a network is exciting. I feel like I'm in the space now where, oh, my god. Who gets to do this? Who gets a network with your name on it and the opportunity to have a platform to speak to people in a way that you get to enhance their lives? Hardly anyone does. That is true. It is a real challenge, though. It's no secret, you came in and you guys had to build from the ground-up. You know what the problem was? I wasn't there. Lorne michaels said to me, it's going to change when you can put yourself there in the space. I wasn't surrounded by the people I was accustomed to work with. I put in sherri and eric morgan who had run harpo. I said about a month ago, that i was in the pivot. I think we're in the full turn now. For the past nine months we've shown amazing growth and really great shows. You are getting traction. We're getting traction. Was there any part of you that said, I don't need this? I don't need to prove myself? There were a couple of days back in the spring and early on, I asked myself, what have i done? Because I expected it would be a lot easier. I expected that I would be able to go into the office every other day or so. Ixpected that I would just call up people and do an interview when I wanted. It doesn't work that way. For anybody that's building anything, any kind of business, it is directly proportional to the amount of work you're willing to put into it. It's so rewarding. We saw the justin bieber interview coming up in november. You have a great oprah's life class going on right now. If you want to know what you're going to be like five years from now, this is what you're saying about yourself right now. Woo. You can't go around saying all day that, you know, I'm not attractive. And I'm never getting any good breaks. And I'm a lousy mother. That's going to draw a negative that feeds. Tell us about the life class. The life class is an anchor for our network. It is really what our brand stands for, enhancing people's lives. Allowing them to be inspired to do better for themselves. I heard a herman that joel o olestien. I texted him. If you say I am ti I'm disappointed -- you bring it on yourself. I texted him and said would you be interested in expanding on that idea and teaching that for our audience? And he agreed to do it. We have this sunday and next sunday coming up. You've been moonlighting, back to acting. Yes. "The butler." I love the pictures you've been tweeting out. And this is a fantastic story that needs to be told. It's a true story. You that worked in washington and still do, are familiar with eugene hall, that was the butler, that lived through eight presidents. And lee daniels, director, saw a story in "the washington post" is creating the screen play. We see you with forest whitaker rightthere. My husband. You have real scenes there. Some lovely scenes with him. Thank you, mr. Whitaker. Thank you, keshia whitaker for allowing that to happen. It's just acting. Are you ready to do more acting? I think when the opportunity presents itself, I would -- my dream is to do broadway. That's going to happen. My dream. All right.
