We Begin now that breaking news about pink slime the filler used to pump up -- ABC's -- model has been on this story from the very beginning and there's now been a major response overnight by America's second largest grocery chain with that. Jim joins us this morning to mourn the -- Good morning Josh when we first brought broke this story the USDA told ABC news consumer pressure. What have to move individual grocery stores to change their pink slime policy. And it looks like that may be happening. America's second largest supermarket chain Safeway -- 14100 stores. Announced overnight it will no longer sell what the meat industry calls. -- finely textured beef. Nicknamed pink slime by USDA scientists. Safeway says in a statement considerable consumer concern led to its decision. Even though the USDA and food industry experts agree that -- finely textured beef is safe and wholesome. Safeway will no longer purchase ground beef containing -- finely textured -- Critics including former USDA scientists who called it more gelatin then ground beef. Contend the ammonia treated pink slime made from low quality scraps once used for dog food and cooking oil is less nutritious than pure ground beef. It's not. Fresh ground beef. It's a substitute it's a cheap substitute being -- an -- 70% of all store but ground beef contained -- slime. But since ABC news expose its widespread use many grocery stores have told shoppers. Their meat counters are free of the mixture. Safeway now joins public's HEB whole foods and Costco promising -- ground beef is additive free no pink slime. And the USDA announced last week that it will disclose the school districts which of its suppliers use it. Pink slime so administrators to decide whether to purchase -- at schools. Not Safeway is the first major grocery store that taken off their shelves as we reported this will now be watching to see if any others follow.
