He's going to confront vladimir putin, who has been a rival with president obama on syria and other issues. But in an interview, putin did seem to open the door on a crack to taking action on syria about chemical weapons. Reporter: He did. But just a crack. Putin suggested that he could possibly support military action on syria if he was convinced it was the syrian government bethand that chemical attack. He mentioned that russia has sent arms to syria. But the white house is skeptical this represents a change of heart. In the same interview, putin suggested it was the syrian rebels who were responsible for the chemical weapons attack. Something that the u.S. Government says is ridiculous and utterly without any evidence. This is one of so many issues where president obama and president putin have clashed and gone head-to-head. But president putin in that interview also said that all of the speculation about their prickly personal relationship is fantasy. Reporter: He did. And of course, president obama, not long ago, described putin as the bored kid in the back of the classroom, when they get together. But putin talked about their relationship saying it was a fantasy they had a tough relationship. He described it this way. President obama has not been elected by the american people in order to be pleasant to russia. And your humble servant hasn't been elected by the people of russia to be pleasant to people, either.
