Transcript for San Antonio Spurs the 2014 NBA Champions
And if you were up late last night, maybe you saw it on ABC, the San Antonio spurs wrapping up the NBA championship with a dominating performance against the Miami heat. Ryan Owens is in San Antonio. Reporter: Redemption for the San Antonio spurs, beating the heat just a year after falling to Lebron and company in Miami. Kawhai Leonard, you are the 2014 mvp. Reporter: Tens of thousands of fans flooded the city, the final score, 104-87. The win brings a fifth world championship to the spurs. And turns this 22-year-old with an unusual name into a household name. Kawhai Leonard just became the third-youngest mvp in NBA history. We played harder than last year. Reporter: Winning on father's day is bittersweet for Leonard, his dad was murdered six years ago. I was able to win a championship on father's day. Reporter: And for Tim Duncan, his kids were there to keep him humble. I like his hat. Reporter: Lebron James didn't like much this series, but he was gracious in defeat. They were the better team. That's why they're the champions in 2014. Reporter: You saw some of those wild celebrations from overnight, no reports of damage, violence, anything like that. But I think it's fair to say, more than a few fans will be a little late for work here on Monday morning. Amy. Fair excuse. Thanks so much for the latest from San Antonio. Did you stay up late? Sure did. I looked like I'm with the spurs right now, this outfit. They don't get a lot of attention. They're not flashy. They just get the job done. They're a team that's united, the coach, everything, very happy for them. And the run -- And even Lebron said it, they were the better team. With the sunglasses on. All right. Move on now to the world
