We turn, now, to one mother making a real splash with a special line of swimwear. She got the idea from her daughters who has a case of mermaid mania. Claire shipman with more on this fish tale. Reporter: The lazy summer day. Splashing, swimming. The usual. But take a glimpse underwater. A glimpse of fantastical creatures. Mermaids have taken up in vancouver, thanks to a mom who wanted her daughters to swim her dream. Loved mermaids. Reporter: They watched them, drew them, dreamed them. And tried to make their own tails with their mother's hose. My sister and I put on nylons and flippers. We had two on. Reporter: Your mom's hose? There had to be a better way. Their mother, monica, stepped in to help. I thought, we can come up with something. Reporter: The creation of the bits of fancy, is mundane. Two flippers, swimsuit fabric to cover it all. Now, it looks like a mermaid. Reporter: From daryl hannah's take, to aerial's story. Little wonder these girls wanted to be a part of it. They insist they'll never outgrow it. And believe it or not, mermaiding isn't just for kids. I always take my tail. And it just fits in the overhead bin of the airplane. Reporter: Some grown-ups, like hannah frazier, even make a career of it. How hard is it to learn how to swim like a mermaid? I wasn't sure I wanted to take the plunge myself. So, I brought along my game for anything daughter, della. Within seconds, away she went, undulating and flapping her tail like the real thing. Was it fun? It was awesome. Reporter: Real-life mermaids, as you can imagine, are like magn magnets. Little kids areamazed. Reporter: And that has business booming. Especially since the girls started taking them on vacation. People say where kid you get them? And one is going to australia. Reporter: Finally, after all the rhapsodizing, I succumb. The things I do for "good morning america." I never had the mermaid fantasy. But for those five minutes, even floundering around, the tail makes you feel graceful, even mystical. You take them off and you feel so different. Different. You can just pretend to be whatever you want. Reporter: And just like the legendary creatures, these homemade mermaids dare not spend too much time on land. For "good morning america," claire shipman, abc news, vancouver. Being a mermaid does not come cheap. They cost about $300. And they suggest starting to learn in the shallow end of the pool.
