Let's get to the fires raging out of control across several western states. Ginger zee has been tracking it overnight. Has the latest for us now. Good morning, george. I'm going to take you right inside the fire. This is what it looks like at ground level. A highway shut down by the billowing smoke. This scene repeated in at least ten states. 60 different places. Lightning, heat, drought, the perfect recipe for a fiery disaster. Raging blaze. More than 60 uncontained fires are taking over parts of the west. Oregon, nevada, utah on fire. Over 40 homes were destroyed in parts of washington state, west of seattle. A 20-year-old firefighter was killed as she battled a fire in idaho. North of san francisco, one of the largest fires. The fire now covers over 6,000 acres. 500 homes were evacuated. Tankers and helicopters are rushing in to help. At joshua tree, highways and trails shut down. 300 acres have burned. Here's part of the problem. Temperatures have soared to record highs. Up to 117 degrees in california. And it's been very dry. Thunderstorms are producing what's called dry lightning, sparking the fires. This california man was standing on his porch when this bolt came a little too close for comfort. I felt my hair kind of lift up on my arms. And felt this tingle in my body. And two seconds later, the lightning bolt hit. Seemed maybe just ten feet away. So, the heat continues today. Not good news. There's some good news for northern california, parts of oregon. The winds will be slightly lighter. Winds in idaho and montana. We'll be tracking it. LOTS OF 100s ON THAT BOARD.
