But bitter cold freezing much of the country. A windily blast targeting the northeast. Sam has been tracking the very latest. Sam, a big change for a lot of us. Big change for d.C., As well, by tonight. For today, it's a big shot of arctic air that dropped in over the weekend. If you look at it, no matter where the air hits, it's going to be the coldest it's been in years. Chicago has not been below the zero mark in 700 days. But they will get below it tonight. This air doesn't go deep in the south. But everywhere it hits, it reminds you of what winter's like. This morning, a brutal reminder of what winter can really feel like. Sub zero temperatures and powerful wins, punishing the midwest. The coldest it's been in minneapolis in four years. In north dakota this morning, temperatures are 20 below zero. But in some areas of minnesota, with the windchill, it feels like almost 50 below. If you don't have to travel, don't. Reporter: Saturday, in michigan, as the arctic front blew through, gusts as high as 60 miles per hour, ripped frees from their roots, tossing them on houses and power lines. This morning, hundreds of thousands still lack power. Families now living without heat in the middle cold. In north dakota saturday, driving snow driven by winds of near 60 miles per hour, a ground blizzard. Along with frozen roads, slowed highways to a crawl. As these temperatures start to dip, withe got the possibility of picking up snow. It's 20 inches of snow. But in many locations, three to six inches of snow.
