After completing his early medical training at the Christian Medical College and Hospital in Velour India, Dr. Asirvatham pursued his internal medicine training and chief residency at Columbia University, New York, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

His interests involve potentially curative invasive electrophysiological management with radiofrequency ablation for complex arrhythmia, including atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia in adults, as well as children.

Sam Asirvatham, M.D., Associate Professor of Medicine, Mayo Clinic - Rochester, Minn.

He trained in cardiac electrophysiology with Dr. Warren Jackman, the pioneer in cardiac ablation for arrhythmia at the University of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City.

Dr. Asirvatham's research has centered on novel methods to improve the safety of ablation procedures. He is particularly interested in efforts to decrease the risk of stroke. In addition, he is using innovative techniques (already used to treat heart rhythm problems) to possibly treat electrical disorders of the central nervous system, including seizures.

Dr. Asirvatham is a faculty member of the Division of Cardiology at Mayo Clinic, one of the largest cardiology divisions with more than 120 consultants with varying segments of expertise in cardiology.

Dr. Asirvatham is a paid consultant for the OnCall+ Heart Health - Arrhythmia Center.
