Just in time for Christmas, porn star Mary Carey is giving a gift to support breast cancer research: her own breasts.
Carey has dumped her size 36D breast implants for the larger 36DDD, and she is selling the used implants on eBay. As of Thursday afternoon, the bidding was up to $15,269.69.
"Now that I'm sober I wanted a new physical state to go along with my new mental state," said Carey in a statement on eBay dated Dec. 5, at the start of the 10-day auction. "I thought the auction would be a great way to spread some holiday cheer and make sure someone out there would have a Mary Mary Christmas."
Carey has promised that 20 percent of the auction's proceeds will benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation's Los Angeles affiliate.
Carey also needs funds to help her mother, a diagnosed schizophrenic, who leapt off a building in 2006 and has undergone 11 surgeries to repair her injuries.
The 27-year-old actress, who has starred in such films as "Lesbian Big Boob Bangeroo 2" and "Pervert!" said she lost her grandmother to breast cancer, and that inspired her to donate the auction proceeds to support breast cancer research.
According to Reuters reports, Carey came up with the idea while she was under anesthesia during her second breast augmentation surgery -- when the D-size implants were removed and the DDD implants were inserted.
"The doctors asked me what I wanted to do with them and I said, 'You know what, I'm going to keep them and try to sell them,'" Carey told Reuters.
Carey started a political career in 2003 during the recall election of then-California Gov. Gray Davis. Her platform included imposing a special tax on breast implants, legalizing same-sex marriages, and mandating jury duty for Californians in order to collect unemployment, as well as the creation of a program called Porn for Pistols to remove handguns from the state's streets.
Running on the independent ticket, Carey finished tenth in the recall election. She received 11,174 votes -- 0.2 percent of the total.
Continuing her political aspirations, Carey ran again for governor against Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2006 but ditched the effort to be with her ailing mother. She said it was then that she turned to the anti-anxiety drug Xanax, taking three times the prescribed dose. Carey was raised by her grandmother, after her father, who has cerebral palsy, and her mother, who is schizophrenic, decided they could not care for her.
Carey will be seen in the upcoming VH1 reality show "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew" and reportedly during taping she conquered her addictions to prescription drugs and alcohol.
Carey is not the only person to come up with an odd method of giving money to support breast cancer research. Sponsored walks are one way of getting money, but newer ideas include climbing mountains, parachute jumping, and even selling "Jingle Jugs."
"We thank Mary Carey productions and their supporters for their generosity in helping a good cause," said a statement from the Susan G. Komen Foundation's Los Angeles affiliate.
"These funds will go towards funding our programs and to help support our goal of eradicating breast cancer as a life threatening disease through research, education, screening and treatment."
Whether the funds come from the sale of breast implants or Christmas cookies, the breast cancer community is happy to have them.
"I'm actually overall very anti-plastic surgery," Carey said to Reuters. "I watched my mom go through 11 surgeries (for her injuries) and it's like, for me to voluntarily put myself through that, the only right thing to do is make money and donate it to charity."
