Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Ma.

Hi. I'm Dr. Carol Warfield from the Pain Management Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School in Boston. Not only are we one of the largest pain treatment centers in the world, but we're also involved in some cutting-edge research. Currently, we are looking at a new drug to treat migraines, and another new drug to treat pain in patients with cancer. For people with sciatica who might otherwise require surgery, we're looking at two new techniques. One involves the injection of steroids, and the other involves the use of a heat probe which actually shrinks a herniated disc. We're also looking at the treatment of some types of pain with magnetic stimulation of the brain and with stimulation of the spinal cord. So as you can see, we're always looking for new and innovative ways to treat pain for our patients.
