Jan. 01, 2009 -- Question: What are Kegel exercises, and how are they used to help with incontinence?

Answer: If you develop urinary incontinence after prostate cancer treatment, it can be helpful to consider exercises to strengthen the pelvic muscles and the pelvic floor, and these can help recover urinary control. Commonly referred to as Kegel exercises, they can build the strength in the muscles below the urinary system, below the prostate, below the bladder, and help recover urinary control that may worsen after surgery or radiation for prostate cancer.
